Top Cameras for Travellers

We've been busy researching cameras as we're due an upgrade and we wanted to share our findings. We wanted a camera that ticks all the boxes. One for function, but also compact for travel.

First up we learned a thing or two this week about the compact and lightweight FUJIFILM X-T20. It comes complete with APS-C sized 24.3MP X-TransTM CMOS III*1 sensor and X-Processor Pro image processing engine. The updated sensor and processor reworked AF algorithm, boost the camera’s startup time and AF performance. What does this mean exactly? Well, it will dramatically improve the camera's ability to track moving subjects! Perfect for action shots.

The X-T20 has incredible video functionality as well and is capable of capturing 4K movies with Fujifilm’s Film Simulation modes. The X-T20 combines an SLR-style viewfinder and dial-based operation - your preference.

Here's what we know so far, it has all-new GP1 chip, so delivers 2x the performance of HERO5 and their best image quality to date. 4k60 and 1080p240 video enable slow-motion playback so you can relive your adventures. The latest GoPro is also waterproof up to 33ft (10m) and go hands-free with its voice command controller. And for lovers of night photography, rejoice because the new GoPro has impressive low-light performance and night photo modes. We love this Canon EOS 800D. It's a great entry level camera and the photo quality is great. And the specification; an APS-C sized, next-generation 24.2-megapixel sensor captures amazing detail, even in difficult conditions. And because it’s a DSLR you’ll love its bright optical viewfinder that shows the world as it really is. This Canon also offers image stabilisation Full HD movies which look superb on the web or on home TV, with moving objects kept in sharp focus. Next, but not least, the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II. The camera boasts up to 18 frames per second sequential shooting with precision C-AF Tracking. 121 Cross-Type On-Chip Phase Detection AF points. Up to 5.5 shutter speed steps of compensation with powerful in-body image stabilisation. Add a 50MP High-Res Shot Mode and your travel pics will never look the same again.
